TYPE
- n.一般表示严格意义上的种类，涉及到classification的这种，较为正式，用法较为局限，就表示“类别”。
e.g. I do not like this type of butter, it is way too bitter for me.
我不喜欢这类黄油，对我来说太苦了。
- v.表示“打字”，这类用法其他两个词语没有，也较为简单。
e.g. I have been typing all night long, almost having worn me down.
我已经敲了一晚上键盘了，快把我累死了。
SORT
- n.表示种类也是涉及到classification的，表示“类别”。更强调某一种特性，更加随意。而且其后跟的名词不一定需要强调属于更大的集合。
e.g. This sort of thing is really frustrating.
这种事太令人沮丧了！
e.g. What sort of person are you?
你是什么人啊?
KIND
- n.也表示种类，和sort的含义非常接近，如果一定要说出用法上的区别，sort有时可以更加口语化，比如上面sort的第二个例句。kind后面跟的名词也不必强调一定属于更大的集合。
e.g. There are different kinds of castles in Disneyland, which is extremely fantastic.
迪士尼乐园有很多不同种类的城堡，棒极了。
- adj.常见地还可以表示“友好”。
e.g. It was really kind of you to help me out at the meeting yesterday, otherwise it would've been very awkward.
SUMMARY
对于上面“属于更大的集合”，在这里作解释，在用type的时候，往往隐含着这是一个大群组的一小部分，而且这一小部分是因为某些特性被人为分开的。比如：
This type of feul is very economic, but may does lots of unpredictable harm to the environment, compared with the other three.
这类燃料经济效益很好，但和其他三种相比，可能会给环境造成难以预测的危害。
在这种语境下，显然我们在谈论一个大的集合“燃料”，然后被分成若干小的集合，也就是这四种燃料，此时非常符合语境。而sort和kind都没有这层含义。
最后引用剑桥词典对于三个词表示“种类”时的英文解释以帮助更好的理解：
Type
a particular group of people or things which shares similar characteristics and forms a smaller division of a larger set
Sort
a group of things which are of the same type or which share similar qualities
Kind
a group with similar characteristics, or a particular type
